Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are moisture farmers on the desert planet of Tatooine. Having raised Luke Skywalker at the request of Ben Kenobi, they keep from him the secret of his birth. They have told him his father was navigator on a frieghter, and Luke has grown up believing this.

When Luke tries to break away and follow his own path, Uncle Owen is antagonistic towards Luke's goals, realizing only too well how much of Luke's father has been passed on to the boy. Though he thwarts Luke's ambitions, he and Aunt Beru love the boy, and have always tried to do their best by him.
